this past summer i was graced by the presence of my great aunt, the one who has studied insects and plants
she looked through my sketchbook and diary - i was hesitant at first and started covering up things i wrote but she assured me that she couldn't make out the words without her glasses
she remarked on my drawings with sparkling love, using words so meaningful to me, words i strive for - "anchored", "free"
i am happy that the pages of my books met her warm hands
something she said during our long, winding conversation struck a chord within me, "there are so many beautiful colors at the death of the day, the sunset"
she later sent us the cozy, heavy quilt she made for her love, her late husband - she wanted us to have it and it ended up in my bed - it greeted me with its embracing patterns and held me still with its weight after my hospitalization in the fall
~ my favorite patch is the one layered with sage green and tea pink yarn
